Call for Projects: Priority Research Program and Equipment for Emerging Infectious Diseases
Strand 3 of the Call for Projects ‘Priority Research Programme and Equipment’ Emerging Infectious Diseases (PEPR MIE) specifically targets SHS and public health and is entitled ‘Enabling public policies and society to cope with epidemic crises’. It is structured around the following three areas, examples of which are given in the text of the call for projects:
· Area 1: Anticipation, crisis management and public action processes
· Area 2: Knowledge, expertise and communication
· Area 3: Effects of crises
Some SHS work may also be integrated into broader, multi-disciplinary projects under the first two strands of the AAP (Strand 1 ‘Accelerating the acquisition of knowledge on Emerging Infectious Diseases’ and Strand 2 ‘Organising and developing new treatments, vaccines and other prevention and diagnosis tools for Emerging Infectious Diseases’).
A few practical points about the AAP:
– A project submitted to the PEPR may include several research grants (theses and post-docs). In addition to involving young researchers, this is a way of exploring in greater depth certain aspects of the project that could not be covered in the project file, as the number of pages is fairly limited.
– The projects submitted must be multidisciplinary (different disciplines within the SHS, or between SHS and public health and/or biomedical sciences) and multi-institutional
– Long-term projects (such as cohorts) may be funded.
– In the text of the call for proposals, examples of themes are given for information purposes, but the list is not exhaustive and any other innovative approach responding to the scientific orientations of the different strands may be submitted.
– The proposed projects may be integrated into international programmes, but only the French partners will be eligible for funding from the PEPR MIE.
– The indicative budget for the call is €13m.
– There is no minimum amount of funding in 2024 for research projects submitted under strand 3 (it is €1m for strands 1 and 2).
– The closing date for the call for proposals is 10 June 2024 (do not underestimate the submission time on the platform).
