Call for Papers: POUR LE PREMIER COLLOQUE INTERNATIONAL ICARES – POUR UNE APPROCHE INTÉGRATIVE DE LA SANTÉ PERSPECTIVES CROISÉES EN SHS

Too often focused on the search for a single cause and a simple, technical solution to the problem – such as the discovery of a new treatment – we sometimes overlook the complex, systemic and multiscalar chains between the development of a treatment, its availability and its use by individuals, who are themselves part of a context of intertwined historical, cultural, psychological, sociological, economic, info-communicational and geographical variables.
The predominance of health issues underlines the need to take account of these dimensions of human life in crisis management. It is these various dimensions and perspectives that the Human and Social Sciences (HSS) bring to environmental and health issues that are of particular interest to us. The aim is therefore to promote and make visible an active interdisciplinary approach that complements medical disciplines in the face of contemporary crises that are now well identified.
By emphasising the social, cultural and economic dimensions of health and environmental policies, promoting open and critical dialogue with communities and targeted interventions to reduce disparities and inequalities, how can the social sciences and humanities help to build a more integrative, equitable and complex approach to health?
ICARES, the Institut pour la Compréhension, l’Anticipation et l’inteRvention en Environnement et Santé globale (https://www.univ-montp3.fr/fr/valorisation-et-partenariats/projets-structurants/icares ), aims to help answer this question by capitalising on the strengths of French research to develop global health as an academic field at regional and national level.
The first ICARES international conference, entitled ‘For an integrative approach to health: cross-disciplinary perspectives in social and human sciences’, will be held in Montpellier on 28 and 29 November 2024. This major event is part of the MedVallée-Monptellier dynamic, a world centre of excellence in global health. It will provide a stimulating platform for researchers and professionals to discuss the following topics:
- Health environments
- Inclusion and vulnerability
- Information, communication and prevention
- Digital health technologies and devices
- Subjectivity, values and health standards
